Everybody be cool …

July 21 2011

As the weather warms up, and you reach for the Air Conditioning button, many of us will be noticing an unusual smell coming from the vents, best described as smelling like ‘old socks!’ This is caused by a build up of bacteria in the evaporator (the bit that cools and de-humidifies the air). It is not only unpleasant but can be harmful and requires quick treatment.

It’s a problem brought to us regularly at Motor Marque and only requires a quick fix. We add an anti-bacterial agent to the system and change the pollen filter to ensure your car is not emitting un-safe levels of bacteria. Job done!

Another frustrating situation is when the Air Con fails to give that blast of cold air when you need it most, leaving you hot and stuffy in your car. But again, it need not be a major problem. More often than not it is simply the refrigerant gas that has run out, which can be cured with a re-gas.

Most systems lose about 100 grams of R134A coolant per year, meaning a loss of efficiency. But all of these Air Con ailments can be dealt with by the right professionals who are properly qualified.

A re-gas in with your service from Motor Marque costs £45 and if you want to get the most from your air conditioning, an Air Con service includes an Anti-bacterial treatment, re-gas and pollen filter and system check.

Keeping the Air conditioning clean and working well will make your car a more comfortable and safe place to be. Having it serviced and cleansed at least every two years by trained professionals should keep you cool.
